San Francisco / Bay Area Argentine Tango Calendar
Emily Pierce & Derrick Del Pilar cordially invite you to the first MILONGA CAFÉ PACÍFICO, a virtual tango event, on Saturday July 25, 2020, from 8 to 10 pm PDT (GMT-8).
At our virtual milonga, our DJs will provide the standard milonga format tandas and cortinas for all who wish to listen in live. You can dance along at home, listen in, chat with friends, or have the music play in the background. We hope to make this a monthly event on the fourth Saturday!
Our DJs and co-hosts for the evening will be Felipe Martinez and Ayano Yoneda. Felipe & Ayano came together in the tango scene of the SF Bay Area, and embody the global nature of tango, traveling full-time throughout the world to teach, DJ, and lecture about the music. They also spend time annually in Buenos Aires studying and enjoying the dance, the music and its history. They are both resident DJs at many Bay Area milongas: El Valenciano, Genesis, The Beat, Alberto’s, and Milonga Rubia. With 38 years of tango experience combined they are both invited to DJ regularly in the US, Asia & Europe. Their musical selection is based on the Golden Age classics that ensure a great atmosphere for dancing. Ayano’s Tango Poetry Project also currently runs two online weekly programs.
We are also excited to announce that we will have live music by bandleader Alex Krebs on the bandoneón, singer Megan Yvonne, and pianist Andrew Oliver streaming on Zoom that night from Tango Berretin in Portland, Oregon, USA at 9:00pm PDT (GMT-8)! They have been performing in Portland and around the U.S. since 2011 and have been featured at Portland’s TangoFest and Valentango, Seattle Tango Magic, the Baltimore Tango Element Festival (backing up Alberto Podesta and Ariel Ardit), the Minneapolis Tango Festival, and at their home base at Tango Berretin in Portland. They have released three albums ranging from traditional to alternative tangos geared towards modern social dancing.
