San Francisco / Bay Area Argentine Tango Calendar
Emily Pierce & Derrick Del Pilar cordially invite you to the third monthly edition of Milonga Café Pacífico, a virtual tango event, on Saturday, September 26, 2020, from 7 to 10 pm PDT (GMT-8).
At our virtual milonga, we provide the standard milonga format tandas and cortinas for all who wish to listen in live. You can dance along at home, listen in, chat with friends, or have the music play in the background. Our monthly event happens on the fourth Saturday.
Our DJ for the evening is Georges Naasan. Georges has been dancing tango since 2002. His journey began in Lebanon, at a time where there was no tango community or milongas to attend. He took classes with traveling teachers and taught himself at the American University of Beirut. Along with a few friends, he founded the first milonga in Beirut and ran it for a few years before he moved to the United States in 2007. He continued to develop his tango skills with various teachers that traveled to Cleveland and later to the Bay Area. In the summer of 2014, he was the recipient of the gold medal in Argentine Tango at the Gay Games. He started DJing in 2015, and quickly became one of the Bay Area’s prominent local DJs. He has travelled for DJing in various US cities including San Diego, LA, Portland and New York. Georges has also been invited to DJ at events such as the Beirut Tango Marathon (2016), Portland Tango Festival (2017 and 2019), and Nora’s Tango Week (2018). Georges has learned much of his tango dancing and DJing skills from various mentors that he met along his journey and to whom he is ever grateful.
Our co-hosts for the evening will be Felipe Martinez and Ayano Yoneda. Ayano’s Tango Poetry Project currently runs two online weekly programs: https://www.facebook.com/groups/513462159606172/
