SUMMARY:Mira Barakat at La Bruja:  beginning and intermediate classes
DESCRIPTION:In February\, Mira Barakat teaches both beginning tango and intermediate tango at La Bruja!  Wednesdays\, February\, 7th\, 14th\, 21st and 28th. These classes are taught as “leaders” and “followers” and are inclusive to folks of all genders\, non-binary & LGBTQ+.\n \n\nThe beginner class is open to all levels.  For the intermediate class\, we recommend that you have been dancing frequently for at least six months.\n \n\n7:00-8:00 pm beginner class\n8:00-9:00 pm intermediate class\n9:00-10:00 pm practica\n \n\n$20 beginner class (cash only)\n$20 intermediate class (cash only)\n$35 both classes (cash only)\n \n\nThe practica is included with the class. Beginners who would like to stay for the practica at 9:00 can take a break in the lobby or bar\, or sit quietly and watch the intermediate class.  This class takes place in the ballroom on all dates.\n \n\nBerkeley City Club\n2315 Durant Ave.\nBerkeley\, CA 94704\n \n\nWe are a 10-minute walk from Downtown Berkeley BART. For bike parking\, use the bell to enter through the service entrance\, and go straight to get to the back courtyard. No parking in the City Club lot. Extra parking is available for $2 per hour at the Ellsworth Structure at 2337 Haste St.\n \n\n\nMira Barakat is a local tango teacher\, performer\, and singer based in Oakland\, CA. With a dance background in Modern dance\, Contact Improv\, Swing and Blues dance\, Mira took quickly to tango after attending her first milonga in 2006 and felt especially drawn to the connection and embrace. A few years later\, she moved to Buenos Aires to study intensively\, dance\, sing and soak up tango in its birthplace. She returns to Buenos Aires every year where she co-hosts a tango immersion program\, BA. Tango Evolution. She works frequently with the queer tango community\, teaching regularly for Abrazo Queer Tango in Berkeley\, and she has taught and performed at the Berlin\, New York\, and Miami Queer Tango festivals. She was a member of the all women’s tango company Tango Con*Fusión from 2016-2019 and toured internationally with the company. She currently offers private classes from her home studio in Oakland as well as group classes around the Bay Area.
