SUMMARY:El Valenciano Milonga w/ "Women in Tango" talk & DJ Marisol Morales
DESCRIPTION:From Marisol\n“I look forward to sharing a special gathering dedicated to women in tango—and to anyone interested in understanding the role women have played in preserving and transmitting this culture. \nTango is an inheritance.\nWe often hear how young men of the Golden Age learned tango by practicing together in neighborhood clubs\, taking turns dancing both roles before stepping onto the dance floor at local dances and carnivals. \nBut what about the women?\nTheir dance floors were different. Terraces\, patios\, dining rooms\, and family gatherings became spaces where knowledge was passed from older sisters to younger ones\, from aunts to nieces\, and among friends. The secrets\, elegance\, and wisdom of tango were transmitted from woman to woman\, generation after generation. \nTo teach and guide younger dancers\, experienced women often needed to understand both roles. In doing so\, they became guardians of a precious cultural heritage.\nThere is a unique beauty in the follower’s role. It is not passive—it requires awareness\, sensitivity\, responsibility\, and the art of listening. Through the years\, I have admired the wisdom of experienced milongueras who\, with a simple embrace\, helped nervous newcomers overcome their fears and discover the joy of dancing.” \nThis talk is an invitation to explore that often untold story: the women who quietly nurtured\, protected\, and transmitted tango through generations. \nPhoto: Rosario\, Argentina\, 1940.
